Exhibitions are selected based on overall artistic integrity and how the subject, medium or curatorial content fits in with annual exhibit and program plans each year. Exhibits are planned 2-3 years in advance. The Art Center generally does not consider exhibits based solely on membership in a club or an organization. The Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center obtains exhibitions in several ways:
- Juried Exhibits
Works for these exhibits are selected by a juror or jurors. A prospectus is mailed out to artists on our mailing lists and is issued in press releases to newspapers and other arts organizations. Works are typically selected from slides. Annual juried exhibits include Made in NY and Quilts=Art=Quilts.
- Curated Exhibitions
Each year the Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center curates solo or group shows based on a theme. Artists are selected from studio and gallery visits, referrals, artist web sites, artist proposals on file and ongoing research. Occasionally the art center works with guest curators.
- Traveling Exhibitions
These exhibits are curated and organized by other institutions, and are made available to travel to sites such as the Art Center.
How to propose an exhibit:
Whether you wish to propose a solo artist exhibit, group show, or traveling exhibit, the following information is needed to consider an exhibition. Proposals are reviewed periodically. Exhibits are planned 2-3 years in advance.

- Explanation of facility and installation requirements

If you would like confirmation that your proposal or slides have been received, please enclose a self-addressed reply envelope or post card. Please do not send unsolicited slides that need to be returned.
