Summer Art Camp at the Schweinfurth Art Center offers 6 one week classes for kids ages 6 - 14 from July 6 - August 14. Kids will work with professional arts educators and teaching artists in visual art classes that explore drawing & painting, fiber arts, sculpture & more.
Register for 1 to 6 weeks of Art Explorations and keep kids creative all summer!
All Summer Art Camp classes meet for one week, Monday - Friday from 9:30am - 12:30pm. Students should bring a snack for morning break and wear play clothes and bring a smock so they can get messy!

Cost per class: $85 members & $95 non-members. Discount for 2+ classes:
$75 members & $85 non-members.

Week 1
July 6 - 10, 9:30am - 12:30pm

Art Explorations, Ages 6 - 8
Teacher: Jacqueline Webster
Each week participants will make 3 – 5 different projects, exploring drawing, painting, paper arts, sculpture and more. Using traditional materials to found objects, students will explore and discover new ways to make masterpieces.

Drawing & Painting I, Ages 9 - 14
Teacher: Richard Pardee
Kids will explore how to look at ordinary objects from a unique perspective. Explore the endless possibilities of pencil, charcoal, pastels and paint. Working from observation and their imagination, students will learn about perspective, scale, composition and color. Projects may include self-portraits, portraits, still-life drawing and landscape paintings.

Cartooning, Ages 9 - 14
Teacher: Jessica Rice
Kids will have to dive into their imaginations to create their very own cartoon characters as they learn to draw caricatures and cartoons using pencil, colored pencil and markers for their very own comic strip.

Drawing & Painting II, Ages 9 - 14
Teacher: Melissa Johnson

Join professional artist Melissa Johnson for a 2nd session of Drawing & Painting. Students will explore the basic elements of design and drawing while expanding their visual art skills. Students will work with charcoal, pencil, pastel & paint as they learn about perspective, scale, composition and color.

Week 4

Sculpture, Ages 9 - 14
Teacher: Cari Adams
Design and create 3D sculptures using traditional and innovative materials. Working with clay, paper mache and recycled objects, kids will get creative constructing a variety of 3D projects.

Week 5

Make A Marionette, Ages 9 - 14
Teacher: Cari Adams
Kids will create a 3D puppet, resembling a cartoon character of their choice, using a variety of mediums. Head will be constructed out of balloons and plaster, feet and hands will be made from model magic clay and the bodies will be produced by leftover fabric scraps. Fishing line will pull the hands and head up so the sculpture moves.

Week 6

Art + Nature, Ages 9 - 14
Teacher: Richard Pardee
In this class, students will explore mandalas found in nature and artists whose work is inspired by nature. They will then make their own connections between art and nature as they create a variety of projects where they will work with paint and clay.
