Sparky & Rhonda Rucker: Music, Storytelling & History Sunday, March 15, 2pm. Sparky & Rhonda Rucker’s concert performance is a humor-filled journey through four hundred years of African-American cultural and folk history. It includes old-time blues, Appalachian music, slave songs, Civil War music, spirituals, work songs, ballads, Civil Rights music and Spark Rucker’s own original compositions. Admission: $3 for adults. Art Center members & children under 12 are free.

Music/Performing Arts Series at Art Center, Thursdays, February 26 – March 26, 7 – 8:30pm with Bob Piorun. An innovative musical and performing arts series that provides instruction, personal interaction, and performance opportunities for participants. Explore classical, jazz, R&B, contemporary and traditional styles of music, improvisation, song writing and careers in the performing arts. Piorun welcomes guest musicians each week. Musicians of all ages and abilities are encouraged to attend. Music/Performing Arts Series is sponsored in part by the Columbian Foundation, Inc. and the Everett Charitable Trust. No program on April 2.

Making Movies: A Contemporary Film & Video Series at Auburn Public Theater, Thursdays, 7:30pm. Making Movies is curated by Terry Cuddy, organized by the Schweinfurth Art Center. All screenings are presented at Auburn Public Theater Cinema, 108 Genesee St., Auburn, NY.

January 22nd at 7:30pm, Chris Borkowski is a media maker from Buffalo, NY that is now living and working in New York City. He has worked professionally as video editor, network administrator, media arts center Technical Director, and University instructor in digital arts. He is a co-founder of the video art portal Perpetual Art Machine [PAM]. He has shown work internationally at various galleries and media festivals and has also performed a number of real-time audio and video pieces.

February 19th at 7:30pm, Critical Art Ensemble (CAE) is a collective of tactical media practitioners of various specializations, including computer graphics and web design, wetware, film/video, photography, text art, book art, and performance, dedicated to exploring the intersections between art, technology, political activism, and critical theory. Formed in 1987, CAE has produced a wide variety of projects for an international audience at diverse venues ranging from the street, to the museum, to the Internet.

March 5th at 7:30pm, Ghen Dennis is a film and video artist living and teaching in New York City. Formerly the Program Director at Squeaky Wheel in Buffalo, NY, Ghen continues to curate film programs through the Film-Maker's Cooperative, Robert Beck Memorial Cinema, and the Mix Festival. Her work is comprised of experimental non-fiction forms using hand-processed film and digital video.

March 19th at 7:30pm, Brian Milbrand is a multidisciplinary artist, working with video, film, performance, audio and painting to create diverse artworks. Milbrand’s career began when he joined Kamikaze, a collective of Buffalo artists who formed an art space with a gallery in Fall 2002. Milbrand is currently in the Termite TV Collective, a Philadelphia and Buffalo based video collective focusing on making thirty minute television episodes centered around a central topic.

April 23rd at 7:30pm, Rodrigo Toscano is the artistic director and writer for the Collapsible Poetics Theater (CPT). His polyvocalic pieces, poetics plays, and body-movement poems, have been performed at the Disney Redcat Theater in Los Angeles, Ontological-Hysteric Poet’s Theater Festival, Poet's Theater Jamboree 2007, and the Yockadot Poetics Theater Festival.. He is the author of To Leveling Swerve, Platform, The Disparities, and Partisans. His newest book, Collapsible Poetics Theater, was a National Poetry Series 2007 selection. Toscano works in Manhattan at the Labor Institute, and lives in Brooklyn. |
