This year's exhibition will feature 89 contemporary quilts
by 80 artists from around the country, Canada, Ireland & Japan. Our 2007 jurors Liz Axford, Nancy Halpern & Jonathan Holstein reviewed 331 quilts by 194 artists.

Lecture “Looking at American Quilts” by Jonathan Holstein

Jonathan Holstein is a collector, whose gift of over 400 quilts and related materials to the University of Nebraska Foundation in 2003 helped to establish the International Quilt Study Center. The quilts he assembled for the 1971 exhibition “Abstract Design in American Quilts” at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York is regarded by scholars as instrumental in igniting the quilt renaissance of the 20th and 21st centuries and elevating quilts to the level of “high” art by presenting them on the walls of a prestigious art museum.

Inspired by nature and its limitless palette, Mary fashions art quilts, wearable art and soft sculpture. Presently she enjoys working with African prints, once having lived in Kenya, and also focuses on experimentation in cloth portraiture. She loves to share her joy of working with color and fiber with others and has had the pleasure of having her work on national and international tour.

Caren Betlinski’s has taken a 10 year journey in the quilt world from a Special Education Teacher who couldn't sew to a Fiber Artist who creates art quilts and has a growing passion for thread painting. With the use of thread, she is able to add color, create details and even create entire pictorial quilts.

Janet Root has only been quilting since 1989, but sewing forever. She teaches traditional quilting classes in several Rochester area quilt shops, and was nominated for The Professional Quilter's Teacher of the Year award for 2005. Janet is also am a member of Genesee Valley Quilt Club and RAFA (Rochester Area Fiber Artists).

Trunk Show by Bette Rogers

Bette Rogers is a quilt artist from Honeoye Falls who has been attracted to fiber since she was a small child learning to knit, crochet and embroider. She went on to study textiles in college and started to make functional quilts while living in Japan. Bette was also studying ikebana (the art of Japanese flower arranging) at that same time and decided to combine her interests by making ikebana quilts.

Trunk Show by Tompkins County Quilter’s Guild

The Tompkins County Quilters Guild is a non-profit educational organization which encourages interest in quiltmaking by sharing and increasing knowledge of the mechanics of quiltmaking and by studying quilt making as an art form. The guild presents a show every two years, and participates in many community service projects including ABC quilts provide for at-risk babies at birth.

Liz Axford Houston, TX
Liz Axford is an artist whose work includes an increasing variety of fiber techniques including quilt-making, surface design, handmade felt and embroidery. A former architect, she teaches quilt-making design and fabric dyeing nationally. Her work has been included in Quilt National, Crafts National, Fiberarts International, CraftHouston and Materials: Hard and Soft. She was the
1998 recipient of the QuiltVisions Quilt Japan Prize, and in 2005 received an Individual Artists Fellowship Grant from the Cultural Arts Center of Houston.
Nancy Halpern Natick, MA
Nancy Halpern has been one of the leading exponents of the American “art quilt” for nearly two decades, and she has taught quilt making for over thirty years. Her work has been exhibited throughout the United States, Europe and Japan. She received the visual artist’s fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Domini McCarthy Award for Exceptional Craftsmanship at the 1985 Quilt National. She has
a BA from the University of California, Berkley, and has studied at Radcliff and the Boston Architectural Center.
