Bojagi: A Wonder of Transparency, with Youngmin Lee

Bojagi represent one of the most distinctive forms of Korean textile art. Jogakbo, patchwork bojagi, were traditionally made from leftover fabric remnants from other sewing projects. Although rooted in tradition, bojagi feel remarkably contemporary. Their bold compositions and geometric forms often evoke modern abstract paintings, making them a timeless expression of abstract design.


Working with small pieces of fabric, participants will create a geometric jogakbo with a unique composition of shapes, lines, and textures. One of the most captivating qualities is its transparency. As light passes through the finished cloth, the seams become delicate lines that add depth, dimension, and rhythm to the design.


Youngmin's design process is intuitive and improvisational. In this workshop, participants will experience not only the techniques but also the philosophy of creating with intention, mindfulness, and joy.

Materials Fee: $30


All QBL workshops begin on Monday and end on Friday. Workshops are from 8:30 am to 4 pm daily. Students check in to their dorms and move into classrooms on the Sunday before the workshop begins. There is a welcome dinner with a lecture Sunday night.
