Photography Workshop with Alex Johns-Hamer

1-Day Workshop
Saturday, May 9 from 10am-2pm
Age/Level: 16+, All levels.
Cost: $35 members, $45 non-members.
This hands-on photography workshop will guide participants through the essentials of capturing and editing strong images. The session begins with a discussion of foundational photography concepts, followed by an introduction to editing techniques using Adobe Lightroom. Participants will then explore a multi-light, off-camera lighting setup, with a live demonstration of how different lighting choices impact a final image. Cameras are welcome, and some attendees may have the opportunity to try the lighting setup depending on equipment compatibility. A professional studio-style headshot will also be available for those interested!
About the Teacher

Alex Johns-Hamer is a Syracuse, NY based event and portrait photographer. Johns-Hamer currently serves as the event photographer for Ganondagan State Historic Site, as well as covering events for Madison Country Tourism. Other notable recent clients include Colgate University, Syracuse University, Rochester Museum Science Center and University of Rochester among others. In the beginning of his career Johns-Hamer served as a photojournalist and correspondent for Indian Country Today. In this capacity he covered events such as Standing Rock, the original Hiawatha Belt returning to Onondaga Lake, and various marches in NYC and Washington DC. This would lead to obtaining a White House Press Pass in 2016 for covering Tribal Nations Conference. Currently Johns-Hamer serves as contributing photojournalist to Zuma Press news wire service. The son of a strong Oneida woman Johns-Hamer hopes his work, while not limited to the Native community. Reflects a positive and contemporary view of a community that is often overlooked, underrepresented and viewed in the lens of the past. The lessons and images Johns-Hamer have created translates to a variety of approaches. From night sky photographs of the milky way, to studio portraits and high-pressure hectic events. In this workshop he will cover some of the foundations of photography, editing and workflow in Adobe Lightroom and building out an oW camera multi-light setup. There will be plenty of interactions and opportunity for participants to ask questions!
