Explore Fiber Arts from the perspective of the bugs, birds, and beasts that make, use and eat fiber to better understand this creative medium and it's wide scoping art forms and materials.

Students will explore this varied medium through creative play, thoughtful investigation, and experimentation to create their own original 'Fiber Friend' and it's hand crafted habitat (it's 'Fiber Den') using introductory crafting techniques, tools and materials.

Through individual and group activities students will have the chance to explore the exciting creative opportunities that Fiber Arts provides as a medium and artform.

About the Teacher

Originally from Geneva, NY, James Caito received his BA in Theatre Arts at SUNY New Paltz. He began his career in Rochester, working within the local theatre community on and off stage as both performer and set/costume designer. Upon moving to Auburn, James had the good fortune to work at The Rev (originally Merry-Go-Round Playhouse) in their Sequential Dramatics Program for almost 10 years, bringing Theatre Arts and creative workshops to the youth of over 40 educational districts within Central New York. Currently, James is the Facilities Coordinator here at the Schweinfurth Art Center, where he oversees the maintenance and safety of our building, in addition to assisting with gallery installations as Preparator and Lighting Technician. It is James’ wish and desire to serve the Arts in any capacity that he can. He is grateful for the Art Center and all the opportunities it provides to our community.
