Mad About Motif, with Pat Pauly

5 Days Monday to Friday, July 19-23, 2027


Pick a handful of strong motifs -- from light and airy to big and bold – and use them to print spectacular fabric. Using thickened fabric dyes, we will combine motifs to create whole cloth prints, or overall prints, or some to cut later and use in fiber work. You will use your graphic motif in several printing techniques from direct drawing, to direct color application, to monoprint, to screen printing images. The class will rely on value as well as color to pull prints that relate, and graphics that will unite pieces for a strong series of works to use in quilts, clothing, or textile art. Knowledge of dye processes helpful but not critical.


Skill level: All; basic experience working with dye helpful but not necessary


Materials Fee: $70


All QBL workshops begin on Monday and end on Friday. Workshops are from 8:30 am to 4 pm daily. Students check in to their dorms and move into classrooms on the Sunday before the workshop begins. There is a welcome dinner with a lecture Sunday night.
