
Themed Independent Studio: Surface Design with Reactive Dyes with Pat Pauly

Ever want to have time to develop your printing style in textiles? To extend the range of graphics for printing fabric? Here is you chance to spend a week developing your style in printing textiles with individual guidance from textile printer and surface designer Pat Pauly. QBL will provide a room equipped with thickened dyes for printing, color wash, rubbings, stenciling, direct application, with combinations to make spectacular fabric for quilts, garments, sculpture, and beyond.
Join independent fellows with a wonderful guide for a week of printing exploration and fun. You’ll print fabric with thickened dye in monoprints, rubbings, silkscreen, breakdown printing, and stenciling. Learn to use layers, color mixing and color theory. Your printed fabric can be used for quilting, textile art, or garments.
Skill Level: Attendees should have had some exposure to working with thickened dyes in a print technique, with basic experience with dyes.
Materials fee: $75 payable directly to Pat Pauly. The fee includes dyes, auxiliary dye materials, print tools, stencil materials, rubbing materials.
All QBL workshops begin on Monday and end on Friday. Workshops are from 8:30 am to 4 pm daily. Students check in to their dorms and move into classrooms on the Sunday before the workshop begins. There is a welcome dinner with a lecture Sunday night.
